Women’s Self Defense – Pepper Spray in Disguise

September 2, 2010
Author: admin @ 10:28 pm

One of the most difficult things about defending yourself is that, usually, the physical attack comes as a surprise (whether it’s a push, a punch, or someone jumping out from the alley). One powerful weapon women can use is also the element of surprise. You can find several types of pepper spray in disguise – from lip stick to rings to pens – that could be the difference in a life or death altercation.

Remember that men rely on their superior strength when they choose to attack a woman. They assume that they will be able to overpower and control their target. And in general, they will succeed. This is why it’s so important for you to use technology to your advantage.

Not only has pepper spray evolved to be potent enough to disorient and cause pain to the extent of incapacitating someone for at least 15 minutes, but now pepper spray comes disguised in different forms…. Think about your experience in bars, and consider the following three scenarios of how these covert products could save you:

1) A guy at a bar is bugging you for your phone number. It has gone beyond persistent and is now bordering on harassment. You say “let me get my pen out” with no intent of giving your number. As you pull out the pepper spray pen, you say “actually you know I’m really uncomfortable giving out my number.” It looks like you just changed your mind, but now you have the product in-hand in case anything turns ugly.

2) The situation could be similar to situation 1) above. Or, with lipstick pepper spray, there are many situations where you could come up with an excuse to pull out your lipstick. Always try to deescalate the situation with words, but if that doesn’t work, you have your product in-hand.

3) If you wear a pepper spray ring, your product is always on-hand/on-finger. Especially if you’re someone who likes to wear a lot of rings, here is a unique addition to your hand.

By using technology and the element of surprise, women can covertly maintain confidence and safety at all times.

Can the Tasers Kill People? Do You Really Care?

August 18, 2010

Please don’t let the title set you off; If you carry a Taser, or are considering purchasing one, it’s obvious that you do care. Most people cringe at the thought of hurting another person, let alone killing one. The point you need to understand is that your ability to protect yourself or your family in a life-threatening situation is the most important thing.
So can Tasers kill people? Since its invention, the Taser has been linked to roughly 70 deaths by my research. In most of these instances, drugs were also involved, and they, or the combination, were deemed the real issue. In some, improper or unnecessary use may have been the culprit. And in one instance where the victim did not die, one of the barbs went into his brain.
By my wager, if someone were shot point-blank in the eye with two barbs travelling at 180 feet/second, it’s possible he could die. But let’s try to take a look at what the product really provides: For people who want to be safe, you can carry a Taser that fits in your hand and in your purse and know that if you’re confronted with a life-threatening situation, you can end it without lethality.
Can Tasers kill people? I would say yes, it’s possible on the magnitude of something like 1 in a million actual street altercations. But I would also choose to focus on the fact that it is a drastic improvement in non-lethality and stopping power over guns, knives, and other self defense weapons. Also consider that the Taser is still considered by many experts to be a non-lethal weapons with more stopping power than many lethal ones.
Most people don’t want to hurt another human being, but the slightest of risk with a Taser is far outweighed by its comforting power. If you are ever confronted by an assailant, aim, shoot, set it on the ground, and run to safety as fast as you can. Your safety is the most important thing.

How to Choose the Best Martial Art

August 16, 2010
Author: admin @ 6:50 pm

Since there were humans, there was war and fighting. Hand-to-hand-or at least melee-combat used to be a larger part of the battlefield perhaps. But even today, unless your intent is to kill every living soul and level every building, sooner or later, combat gets personal.
Today, people take up and continue martial arts for many reasons: Exercise, discipline, self defense, spirituality, and socializing seem to be some of the top reasons, but many people now find a profession in (especially) mixed martial arts (MMA). Notice how many amazing things martial arts can bring to us; I believe it brings a lot into my life.
But now to the comparison: One of the simplest ways that one might consider to test the different arts is in a one-on-one fight. However, even this has its flaws. I practice Krav Maga, which is a self defense system that doesn’t have the words “fair fight” in it when it comes to application on the street. So there is something inherently wrong with putting a Krav expert in the ring with a Kung Fu master.
I practice Krav because, when I went in search of a martial art, I wanted to learn how to defend myself and my family at any cost. I never want to get into a real fight, but if I do, I want to be prepared to defend my life. Many-I’d say any-martial art can help you do this, but this is the focus of Krav. If your interests are different, you may decide that the best martial art out there is different.
Tae Kwon Do is beautiful and promotes impressive flexibility and balance. Many different Kung Fu styles introduce beauty and discipline. Karate lends itself to a great point-based competition. Sumo Wrestling displays raw power. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great tool for women in rape situations. And the list goes on.
By this point, you probably realize where I’m going with this: There is no such thing as the best martial art. It all has to do with your opinions and intent. If I were to make any statement, I would say the more styles you learn, and the more time you practice, and the more thought you put into that practice, the better off you’ll be.

Women’s Self Defense – How to Use a Stun Gun

August 9, 2010
Author: admin @ 12:01 am

Women’s self defense can be as simple as a hand-held device called a stun gun. There are many different kinds, with varying voltages, but the end result is the same: Hold it on someone, and he will end up on the ground.
Stun guns work by creating an electrical circuit with a break in the circuit (and a powerful enough charge to jump that break). The gap between the two prongs is the break in the circuit. When a body offers to complete the circuit, the charge eagerly accepts.
The charge running through the person’s body triggers nerves that control muscles, and the muscles rapidly contract and expand, converting blood sugar into lactic acid. It also disrupts neurological impulses that control muscles. The result is physically fatigued and “mentally” confused muscles.
When looking for a product, one of the main things to consider is the voltage. Amperage is really what controls the strength of the electrical charge, but this doesn’t vary much across products. Voltage determines the rate at which the charge dumps that energy into the body.
A 100,000 volt stun gun may need to be held on a person for 5 seconds to cause the same effect of just touching someone with a 2.7 million volt one. The result will be the same, but you must be willing to hold the gun on the assailant until he drops. For women self defense, this is the most important thing to recognize.
Fortunately, a stun gun can be applied to any place on the body, and it will work. But I recommend going for the easiest target–usually the stomach, chest, or back. Don’t worry about shocking yourself through the other person, human skin is an amazing insulator as long as it’s not right between the prongs!
If you are forced to use a stun gun, USE it: Jam it into the most available target on your attacker, and hold it there until he is immobile on the ground. Then get to safety.

Women’s Safety – Protect Yourself With Knowledge And Technology

August 7, 2010
Author: admin @ 12:29 pm

Brains over brawn and technology over everything else. This day in age, innocent people–especially women–are victimized every second of every day. But there are steps you can take to protect yourself using knowledge and technology. Notice which comes first there; it’s important to realize that you have the choice to control much of your own safety.
Since the dawn of time, women have had the under-hand when it comes to physical strength. However, this has meant less and less as our society has become more “civilized” and our weapons more advanced. Women should embrace this fact and take the steps necessary to protect themselves. In addition to the multitude of products out there, I believe all women should take at least a beginner self-defense course.
One thing that has NOT changed is that your most powerful weapon is still your mind. To be safe and avoid becoming a victim, think about the situations you put yourself in on a daily basis. Where do you park your car? Where do you go for runs? Do you go out alone or in groups? When do you go out? What type of bar do you go to? These are simple questions with very complex implications.
What HAS changed? The tools that women can use to defend themselves and the ease to acquire these tools. From Lip Stick Pepper Spray to Key Chain Alarms. From the Pretender 950,000 Volt Cell Phone Stun Gun to the Stun Master 800,000 Volt Telescopic Stun Baton. From the TASER C2 with Laser Sight to the Inter-galactic Laser Death Ray. OK that last one is science fiction, but I hope you’re getting the point.
The options available make it comfortable, convenient, and covert to stay safe, so people are out of excuses. There are countless things that women can do to protect themselves. But start simple: Consider the decisions you make on a daily basis that could put yourself in harms way. Then consider taking steps to protect yourself from that and from the dangers you can’t predict. Take your safety into your own hands.

Using Non-lethal Weapons – Non-lethal Means Temporary

July 7, 2010
Author: admin @ 2:01 am

If you’re reading this, you’re likely interested in using non-lethal weapons to defend yourself. Personal Alarms, Pepper Sprays, Stun Guns, and TASERs are all highly effective means of defending yourself. Carrying these can give you peace of mind and safety for you and your family. I am a strong believer that the majority of people, especially women, should carry one or more of these products. In addition to the products’ effectiveness, you can maintain the peace of mind that you won’t kill, or even permanently injure, your attacker. Taking a life can have traumatic side-effects on a person–ask our veterans.

What you must remember is that using non-lethal weapons means that your attacker will be only temporary incapacitated. All Protechtion Self Defense Products will incapacitate your attacker for more than enough time to get to safety. But that needs to always be your number one concern. If you successfully subdue an attacker, don’t waste time crying, taunting, or thinking about what just happened. Get to safety, and then call 911.

Personal Safety in Different Situations – Hiking

July 4, 2010
Author: admin @ 5:46 pm

I read a good article that talked about the need for self defense products on hiking/camping trips. Check out the article at http://home-improvement-power.com/outdoors/safety-essential-for-the-backcountry; it has an eye-opening reference to the serial killer Ted Bundy. It was especially personal because so many of my friends go camping for the 4th of July weekend. Everyone needs to consider their personal safety in different situations, when we mix up our routine.

When going hiking, make sure to give a friend or family member your intended hike/destination. You can even consider a GPS device. In general, you will not get reception on your cell phone on a hike because it is in a remote location. Then, pack one or more personal safety devices to protect against a human assault in addition to your tools for animal protection. Note that some mace/pepper spray products can double here, as they are very effective against some animals.

Hiking/Camping is fun, but challenging enough just given what nature throws at you. Prepare for the human element that could prove even more dangerous to your life.

Different Methods of Self Defense – Avoidance

July 2, 2010
Author: admin @ 2:58 am

Of all the Different Methods of Self Defense out there (there are too many styles to count), the most effective is avoidance: This is stopping an incident from ever occurring. The first step to avoiding dangerous situations is being smart about your every day actions. Below are some simple examples that I think a lot of people should consider.

1. Don’t walk or run alone with your headphones in your ears unless it’s daytime in a crowded area.

2. Choose safer bars/restaurants based on their reputation and your transportation to and from.

3. Park under street lights and close to your location. Your car is less likely to get broken into, and you’re less likely to get unpleasantly surprised.

These are just three things that most people can implement, but think about your daily routine and how you can be safer. Then carry a Personal Alarm and a Pepper Spray, Stun Gun, or TASER, in case something DOES happen! I also recommend that everyone take at least a basic self-defense course. Check out this video to see some guys who clearly know many…

Alarms – Keeping Your Home and Business Safe

June 30, 2010
Author: admin @ 4:55 pm

I’ve been reading a lot of opinions regarding surveillance systems. I am a believer in these systems for places of business and residence and provide a variety of systems at my sister site, which focuses on products for Keeping Your Home and Business Safe. However, when it comes to keeping your home safe, surveillance is not enough.

In addition to having self defense products accessible if, god forbid, an intruder confronted you, it is paramount that you use alarms. Surveillance will show you the bad things that happened after the fact. Systems that call the police will bring assistance… in 30 minutes or so. But noise from an alarm is a HUGE deterrent for an intruder. I like the UFO Home/Personal Alarm because it can be placed in windows and other points of entry.

Ultimately, all these products complement each other. The most important thing in keeping your home safe is to have some type of personal protection device (such as a TASER or Pepper Spray). It is wise to have deterrents such as alarms that can prevent dangerous situations from occurring. Surveillance systems can be very useful in the aftermath, for placing liability and recovering property.

Product Confidence – How to Choose a Self Defense Product

June 28, 2010
Author: admin @ 11:49 pm

I read an article that stressed the importance of avoiding physical confrontation. It discussed that, if the need to defend yourself arises, many self defense products can provide protection from an attacker without physical confrontation. The issue of liability came up, however, when discussing choosing a self defense product. I would like to argue that this issue should be very low on your list when you consider how to choose a self defense product to carry. If you’ve made it here, you already carry or are likely deciding to carry a non-lethal self defense product. Now you should focus on choosing the one that you are most comfortable with and confident in.

The comfort you have with your product will directly translate into the confidence you have in your ability to successfully defend yourself when necessary. Women say that a hand on their Mace or Stun Gun, inside their purse as they walked to their car, instantly makes them feel safer. After the fact, they realized that this feeling undoubtedly made them walk with more purpose and confidence. This alone can make you look like less of a victim/target.

When deciding how to choose a self defense product, please do your research on all the options out there (these days the number of choices is astounding), and then choose the one that you are most comfortable with carrying and using when necessary. Even though we live in a ridiculously litigious society, the saying still holds true that “it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.”
